Suportahan Taka? Eh Baket?

Two nights ago, I spent about 30 minutes trying to piece together my voting list. After that half hour, I was still stuck with a slate which was woefully sparse – only 6 senators, 1 mayor, no vice mayor and no councillors.

I have to admit that I was not prepared for Halalan 2007. I didn’t know much about the candidates aside from the fact that most had just switched allegiances for convenience and others were more style than substance. Party affiliations followed personalities, not policies (although kudos should be given to both TU and GO for not choosing Richard Gomez).

Media was a disappointment. Rather than discuss issues, many print and tv outfits focused on nonsensical things such as campaign jingles and rankings in the horserace. As if “Itanim sa Senado” was supposed to be the gauge of Pichay’s future performance. As an aside, I kinda feel sorry for the guy… all that money down the drain and he still doesn’t seem to have found a place in the magic 12. How will he recoup his expenses? Caption under his mugshot: What were you thinking?

So who were my final choices for Senator?
Angara
Coseteng
Pangilinan (although Mr. Noted had better do better)
Ang Kapatiran

Binay (the father, not the son) also got my vote. Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.
