Feeling Reflective

(This was written a few days before we took a one-way flight to Singapore).

The past 2-3 weeks have been jam-packed with activities ranging from ordering tables and carpets to packing (152 boxes) to arranging last minute despididas.

Tempers have flared, egos have had to be messaged (or deflated), and connections strengthened.

Here are a couple of things which I've internalized.

1. There really is truth to the saying "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff". Ok, so people are late. At least they came. That effort alone is something to be greatly appreciated in this age of multi-tasking and triple booking. So what if the furniture that arrives is not what you imagined it would be. Will you die because of it? Of course not.

2. There's a fine fine line between extended and immediate family. You have to make sure that there are boundaries and continuously ensure that those boundaries are respected. Yes, some egos will be dented but it's better to nip things in the bud rather than allow them to fester into gangrene. Know where your priorities and principles lie and follow both your heart and mind.

3. Do not assume. Do not presume.

4. Don't cry over spilt milk. It's a complete waste of time, energy and emotion. Trust me.

5. Show me your family and friends and I will show you who you are. I'm so so blessed to have been raised in the Tolentino and Ona family traditions. Yes, we are loud and boistrous but what the heck, may pinagyayabang naman hahaha. I am also fortunate enough to have been able to forge great friendships with the cso brats and the ticket2me gangs: all driven, all very successful in their chosen fields (without any familial or political intervention mind you) and all following their red ball. Without exception.

6. To thine own self be true. You can't control what others think or feel about you but you can control how you feel about yourself.

7. Who do you think you are (referring to self)? Some kind of superstar? NOT!

8. Sloth leads to Procrastination leads to Panic leads to #1.

9. Find your red ball and chase it to your heart's content. Life will not stand still waiting for you to catch up.
